After the recent worldwide ransomware attacks, protecting your documents from potential hijackers has become a priority. A way of achieving that is by detecting ransomware before it encrypts your files, and another way is the 360 Document Protector way. This free tool backs up any document you create or modify so that you can recover it if encrypted and locked up due to a ransomware attack.

This better-safe-than-sorry approach won’t prevent ransomware from infecting your beloved documents but will provide you with a backup solution that will prevent you from paying the ransom. It is not clear if 360 Document Protector is capable of detecting these attacks or not, though the latter seems the most plausible option. This is not an anti-virus tool – this is a real-time backup solution that will detect changes in your documents and will make and save a copy of the original files just in case. The program comes with its own fall-back solution – a file decryption tool. If you happen to have files locked up by a ransomware attack prior to the installation of this tool or if the backed-up files have become irrecoverable for whatever reason, you can rely on this feature to decrypt any locked-up files for you.

Apart from the obvious benefits of such an anticipatory approach, this backup frenzy will provide you with the possibility of both recovering files that you or somebody else deleted accidentally and of going back to previous versions of the same file when needed. The drawback of all this is that you may see your disk space dwindling, especially if you update your documents very frequently. As a precaution, 360 Document Protector will limit the size of your files to 100 MB (with a maximum limit of 10 GB) and will keep them on your disk for 30 days, unless you decide to keep them forever. Besides, you can tell the program which file extensions to back up, though it seems to make copies of whatever file has been modified.

360 Document Protector is just another way of preventing data hijacking as a consequence of a ransomware attack. Both its real-time backup solution and its file decryption tool will keep you away from locked-up files and extortionary threats.
